      Is Grand Cayman safe?

One of the reasons we bought the condo on Grand Cayman is the very low incidence of crime on the Island. Not only is Grand Cayman very safe, you will probably never run into an unsolicited "beach vendor" trying to sell you something such as you find on many of the other Caribbean islands. Of course, just like at home, lock your car and condo doors as appropriate.

      Are there good restaurants nearby?

There are several excellent restaurants near the condo, all of which we have visited recently. The Hyatt runs a restaurant at Rum Point (2miles) which serves dinner and attracts visitors from 7 mile beach. During the day, waitresses serve lunch to you at picnic tables on the beach under palm trees. The lunch menu includes burgers, conch fritters, local fish, jerk chicken and other local favorites. Just 1 more mile down the road is the Kaibo Yacht Club. The Kaibo dinner menu includes very generous portions of steak, fish and local favorites such as conch steak. Just 4 miles east of the condo is Over the Edge, a very popular restaurant with both the local folks and visitors. Here you will find fresh fish and local cuisine at very reasonable prices. Tukka, located on the East End features Caribbean and Australian dishes and a generous Sunday Brunch. If you enjoy fine dining with excellent service and creative preparation, then you won't want to miss The Lighthouse at the Breakers, considered one of the best restaurants on Grand Cayman. The Lighthouse is located just 9.5 miles from the condo on the south shore just east of Frank Sound Dr. The Driftwood Bar and Grill, next door to the condo serves a very popular outdoor barbecue on Sunday afternoons.

What is the difference between the North Side and 7 mile Beach?

7 mile beach is on the West side of the island and is home to the major hotels such as the Hyatt and the Marriott. It is a beautiful beach and the hotels are packed in very tightly to take maximum advantage of each foot of sand. There are many restaurants, dive shops, strip malls and just about any service you may need. 7 mile beach is also very crowded and rivals the busiest US cities in traffic congestion during rush hour. If you like to watch people and want the bustle of the city - on a Caribbean beach - then 7 mile beach is the place to be.
Rum Point, where Island Time is located, is on the North Side of the Island. Rum Point has primarily residential homes and a few small condo complexes. Cayman Kai, also located in the Rum Point district has many beautiful villas in scenic locations overlooking the Caribbean Ocean and the Sound that separates Rum Point and the west side. At the tip of Rum Point is a beautiful park which has a restaurant, shops, and a watersports facility all run by the Hyatt. The park has a pristine beach with many palm trees, hammocks and some local exotic pets. Island Time is just 2 miles from the Rum Point park. The condo is on a beautiful sandy beach with a lively fringing reef just a short swim away. If you want a private beach in a natural scenic environment with the availability of amenities just a short drive away, then you want to stay at Island Time.

Is there a grocery store nearby?

Chisolms Grocery, a small local grocery is located just 2 miles east of the condo. You will find most any of your essential items there. We suggest that you stop at Fosters Food Fair or Hurley's Market on the way out of the airport if you plan on doing extensive cooking for a week or so.

      Are there dive shops nearby?

Red Sail Sports in Run Point and Ocean Frontiers on the East End are full service dive shops with profession staffs. Make sure to book in advance as we have found both dive shops to be booked the entire week on some trips. Also ask about package deals if you plan on doing more than a couple of days of diving. If you are new to diving or diving on Grand Cayman and have more questions, please feel free to email me. I have been diving for 30 years, 10 years on Grand Cayman and I will be happy to share my personal preferences with you.

What rental car companies do you recommend?

We have been using Marshall's for most of our visits.  They have consistently had the most competitive rates for our needs and have always provided excellent service.  However, I recommend checking the local web sites since many companies will run specials and depending on your needs one of the other rental agencies may have a better deal for you. Check here for links to most of the rental companies on the Island.

There is a telephone in the living area. The telephone number is 345-947-9096 which can be dialed direct from the United States.
